Artifacts & Champions
Learn more about Artifact 2.0 and the types of champions there are, and how to stop them.

What is an Artifact?

  • Originally, when you start a Season, you would be introduced to an artifact that you would progressively unlock over the course of the season.
  • Artifacts are buildcrafting items that provide powerful gameplay perks. In Monument of Triumph, Destiny 2 now uses Artifacts 2.0, which simplifies how Artifact perks are selected and removes the old seasonal anti-Champion mod columns
  • Instead of relying on one seasonal Artifact, players have access to multiple updated Artifacts from Destiny 2’s past. These Artifacts have been adjusted for the modern sandbox and are designed to support long-term buildcrafting in Destiny 2’s final live-service era.
  • Artifact selections can also be saved to Loadouts, making it easier to swap between builds without manually reselecting Artifact perks each time.

This page has been updated for Destiny 2: Monument of Triumph.

Artifacts 2.0 & Perks

  • Destiny 2 now uses Artifacts 2.0, a streamlined system that brings back multiple legacy Artifacts, simplifies perk selection, and allows Artifact choices to be saved with Loadouts.
  • Anti-Champion mods have been removed from Artifacts, and all weapons now have intrinsic anti-Champion capabilities based on weapon frame or archetype. In most cases, stunning Champions is now much easier to understand: equip the right weapon type, hit the Champion, and apply the matching anti-Champion effect.
This guide is brand new and completely refreshed! We are working to add the artifact icons in a future update.

Champions

  • Champions are special enemies with unique defensive or aggressive abilities. There are three main Champion types: Barrier, Overload, and Unstoppable.
  • In Monument of Triumph, Champion counters are handled through Anti-Champion 2.0.
    • Anti-Champion mods have been removed from Artifacts, and all weapons now have intrinsic anti-Champion effects based on their weapon frame or archetype.
  • To stun a Champion, equip a weapon with the matching anti-Champion effect and land hits on the target.
    • This means you no longer need to wait for a specific seasonal Artifact mod to support your favorite weapon type.
  • Subclass verbs and some Exotic effects may still provide Champion utility, but the core system is now weapon-frame based and much more consistent across the game.

Types of Champions

  • Barrier Champions create an impenetrable dome shield that will begin health regeneration if not stunned immediately.
  • Types of Barrier Champions:
    • Cabal: Colossus
    • Fallen: Servitor
    • Hive: Knight
    • Vex: Hobgoblin

Anti-Champion Perks: Anti-Barrier

  • The Anti-Champion capability is automatically activated when the perk is unlocked.
  • Use this to pierce Barrier Champion Shields.
  • Anti-Barrier Weapons also pierce shields on HobgoblinsPhalanxes and Hydras

Anti-Champion Subclass Attributes

  • In Destiny 2: Lightfall, Barrier Champions can be countered with Solar, Void and Strand abilities in the following ways:
    • When Volatile Rounds is active (Void)
    • When Radiant is active (Solar)
    • When Unravelling Rounds is active (Strand)
  • Some Seasonal Artifacts provide ability anti-champion perks.
    • Using a fully charged ability of the correct ability type and element can immediately stun the specified champion type.
  • Champions that have increased healing and ability regeneration.
  • Overload Champions will often spam their abilities!
  • Types of Overload Champions:
    • Fallen: Captain
    • Taken: Taken Hobgoblin
    • Vex: Minotaur
    • Scorn: Chieftain

Anti-Champion Perks: Overload Rounds

  • Overload weapons cause disruption, which decreases the damage output of other enemies.
  • Overload weapons also delay PvP ability regeneration when used against combatants.

Anti-Champion Subclass Attributes

  • In Destiny 2: Lightfall, Overload Champions can be countered with Arc, Stasis and Void abilities in the following ways:
    • Using Jolt (Arc)
    • Using Suppression (Void)
    • Using Slowed or Freeze Effects (Stasis)
  • Some Seasonal Artifacts provide ability anti-champion perks.
    • Using a fully charged ability of the correct ability type and element can immediately stun the specified champion type.
  • Champions that have a large amount of health and will rage attack when being attacked.
  • Unstoppable Champions are immune to stagger and stun capabilities from weapons and abilities (with the exception of anti-champion mods)
  • Types of Unstoppable Champions:
    • Cabal: Incendior
    • Hive: Ogre
    • Taken: Taken Phalanx
    • Scorn: Abomination

Anti-Champion Perks: Unstoppable

  • Unstoppable Weapons also stagger unshielded combatants when used with a slight damage increase to that unstoppable bullet.

Anti-Champion Subclass Attributes

  • Can be countered with Arc, Solar, Stasis and Strand in the following ways:
    • Using a Blinding Effect (Arc)
    • Triggering a Solar Ignition (Solar)
    • Triggering Suspend (Strand)
  • Some Seasonal Artifacts provide ability anti-champion perks.
    • Using a fully charged ability of the correct ability type and element can immediately stun the specified champion type.
