Frequently Asked Questions

What do the perk columns mean on a weapon?
  • Every weapon has designated perk columns that adjust the weapon stat distribution outside of its base stats.
    • Optics: Adjustments to weapon range and scope. 
    • Magazine: Adjustments to weapon ammo capacity, handling, and stability. 
    • Base Traits: Two random perks that provide a unique benefit to the weapon. 
    • Origin Traits: Innate buffs that a weapon has, depending on the source activity and/or weapon manufacturer.
      • Weapons obtained before Season 16 will NOT have Origin Traits.

  • NOTE: Some weapons, such as Adept or Seasonal Focused Weapons, may have additional perk options.

What are Weapon Stats?
  • Weapons also have individual base stats that define how the weapon operates. Weapon perks, modifications, and masterwork bonuses can impact base stats.
    • Impact: Increases the damage inflicted by each round.
    • Range: Increases the effective range of the weapon.
    • Stability: The better stability the less recoil you experience.
    • Handling: How quickly your weapon can be readied and aimed.
    • Reload Speed: The time it takes to reload the weapon.
    • Accuracy: For Bows, how well shots fired hit their target.
    • Draw/Charge Time: How long it takes to draw/charge your weapon. (Less is quicker)
    • Blast Radius: Increases the explosion radius of Launcher weapons.
    • Velocity: For Rocket/Grenade Launchers, the speed of projectiles fired.
    • Target Acquisition: Aim assist, bullet magnetism, and opponent hitbox. (More is better)
What are Enhanced Traits?
  • Resonant Weapons, aka weapons that can be crafted, are able to be reshaped with enhanced perks that improve the original perk’s capabilities.
  • Enhanced Perks are typically the last set of perks to unlock while levelling up your weapon and have a much higher cost when reshaping the weapon.
  • Not every weapon perk in the perk pool has an enhanced version, however. Bungie will most likely add more in future seasons!

How do Perk Combinations work in Destiny?
  • Understanding how perk combinations affect your weapon is crucial to perfecting your gameplay.
  • If you are a new player, you will want to experiment with new weapons and perks.
  • Ultimately, the “feel” of the weapon is based on player preference – so the best way to figure out what works best for you is to simply try out new weapons and perks!
  • On this page, we have listed all available perks released thus far for weapons released in Destiny 2.
    • Weapons typically receive two randomized perks that add to the base stats or enhance combat capabilities in some form.
    • Perks continue to be added each season, so DLC icons (Forsaken+) will be marked on each of the perks on this page.
    • When a new perk gets added, you can expect future seasonal weapon drops to feature one or more of the perks going forward.

BUTTERFLY

Aiming this weapon for a short period without firing causes your target to explode the next time you deal final blows. Timer resets when you stop aiming down sights.

Precision final blows create an elemental damage explosion that deals more damage based on the number of rapid precision hits dealt beforehand.

Currently only available on Oxygen SR3, which has been reprised in Renegades.

SUPERCHARGED MAGAZINE

While amplified, ammo is gradually transferred from reserves to the magazine.

THERMAL ATOMIZATION

While at high heat, this weapon deals increased damage and causes targets to explode when defeated.

Collecting ammo loads an explosive round that adheres to surfaces, detonates shortly after impact, and applies exhaust.

Collecting elemental pickups or an Orb of Power reduces heat.

This weapon’s Kinetic ordinance can more easily stagger combatants, and grant increased target acquisition and damage against low-health targets.

AGGREGATE CHARGE

This weapon deals more damage for each elemental debuff applied to the target.

ANCILLARY ORDINANCE

Rapid elemental final blows and final blows on targets affected by elemental debuffs periodically prepare a homing micro-missile, which is launched from your target after this weapon’s next final blow. Multiple missiles can be prepared.

BEWILDERING BURST

Reloading this weapon after defeating a target causes the next hit to launch a Kinetic projectile that detonates into a disorienting blast.

COLLECTIVE PUGILISM

Collecting elemental pickups or destroying a Strand Tangle grants this weapon a stacking period of melee energy generation on hit. Elemental pickups include Firesprites, Void Breaches, Stasis Shards, Ionic Traces, and Strand Tangles.

Picking up an Orb of Power causes your next final blow with this weapon to grant bonus Special ammo meter progress.

Burning Ambition
BURNING AMBITION

Dealing sustained damage  scorches the target. Dealing damage to a scorched target inflicts scorch.

As per Light.gg Community:

Direct Hits against Scorched Enemies apply additional Scorch on a 0.5 second cooldown:
• Primary Weapons apply 10 [PVP: 4] additional Scorch per Direct Hit ( 15 [PVP: 9?] with Ember of Ashes)
• Special and Power Weapons apply 20 additional Scorch (20 with Ember of Ashes)

Ember of Ashes increases the amount of Scorch applied by 50%. 

Enhanced Trait: Decreases the number of Direct Hits required by varying amounts required to trigger perk.

Binary Orbit
BINARY ORBIT

Elemental Final Blows opposite this weapon increase damage for a short duration. Darkness final blows boost Arc, Solar, and Void Weapons. Light final blows boost Stasis, Strand and Kinetic weapons.

As per Light.gg Community: Scoring opposing Elemental Alignment Kills grants 25% increased damage for 8.5 seconds. Buff can be activated while stowed. 

Enhanced Trait: Improves Perk Duration to 10.5s.

Transcendent Moment
TRANSCENDENT MOMENT

Final blows grant bonus stats based on the weapon’s damage type alignment. Light elements grant stability and handling. Dark elements grant range and aim assist. While Transcendent, this weapon gets both bonuses.

Blast Distributor
BLAST DISTRIBUTOR

Dealing splash damage grants a bonus to Grenade stat.

As per Light.gg Community: Dealing Explosive damage grants a stack of ‘Blast Distributor’ for 5 seconds. Maximum of 5 stacks. ‘Blast Distributor’ grants 10 Grenade stat per stack.

PROXIMITY POWER

When targets are nearby, final blows grant a small amount of bonus Melee stat.

As per Light.gg Community: Weapon Kills while within 15 meters of enemies grant a stack of Proximity Power 10 seconds. Maximum of 3 stacks. Each stack grants 15 Melee stat.

Enhanced Trait: Improves bonus to Melee Stat (18, up from 15)

Final blows increase ammo meter progress from all sources for a short duration.

Reaper's Tithe
REAPER'S TITHE

Multiple simultaneous final blows queue up a stacking damage buff. Timer starts on next weapon fire; final blows extend this timer.

As per Light.gg Community: Max of 4 stacks. ‘Reaper’s Tithe’ grants 20%|30%|40% increased damage for 15 seconds. Timer only starts after firing. Additional Weapon Kills extend the buff duration by 6 seconds, but not beyond the initial 15-second duration.

BUILT TO BLAST

Gain lingering aim assist, stability and flinch resistance while you have Woven Mail, Frost Armor or Void Overshield.

SHARP HARVEST

Landing three light-attack hits within a short time grants special ammo.

As per Light.gg Community: Scoring 3 Powered Sword Hits within 1.5? seconds of each grants 5% of Special Ammo reserves. Equipping two Special Weapons halves the amount of ammo granted to 2.5% for each one.

Enhanced Trait: Time allowed between hits to trigger perk is increased by about 0.5s, making it easier to trigger.

Weapon Damage & Damage Output Perks

Weapon perks that primarily provide weapon damage bonuses, or modify a weapon's damage output.

ADAGIO

After defeating a target, this weapon fires, charges, or draws more slowly and deals increased damage for a brief time.

Works well with range or target acquisition perks for improved weapon capability.

ADAPTIVE MUNITIONS

This weapon adapts its damage output and effectiveness against energy shields that don’t match the weapon’s damage type.

Grenade final blows grant bonus damage and handling for a moderate duration.

A useful perk with a beneficial damage boost. Works great with Demolitionist.

Deal damage with all equipped weapons within a short time to give this weapon a damage boost.

Upon dealing damage with all your Weapons within 7 seconds of each:
Grants 30% Increased Damage for 10 seconds.

BLUNT EXECUTION ROUNDS

Damaging nearby combatants with melee abilities dramatically increases handling and damage. Expires after a short duration or the next shot.

Exclusive to the BxR-55 Battler Pulse Rifle. +500% PvE, +100% PvP increased damage for one burst, and +100% handling for 10s. Can be activated while stowed.

BOX BREATHING

Aiming this weapon for a short period without firing grants bonus range and precision damage that resets after firing or exiting zoom.

CASCADE POINT

Final blows or sustained precision hits with another weapon increase this weapon’s rate of fire for a short duration.

Firing Delay is reduced by 30% on SMGs/Machine Guns, and 40% on other weapons.

CIRCLE OF LIFE

Rapidly healing allies grants this weapon a period of increased damage.

Takes 6 healing hits to proc. Grants 25% (PVP: ~12.5%) increased damage for 10 seconds.

CHAOS RESHAPED

This weapon gains bonus damage for 7s while in combat for 12s or more. Remaining in combat for even longer rewards a larger damage bonus and periodically heals the wielder.

Stacks up to 2 times with a max damage bonus of 35%. Currently exclusive to Salvation’s Edge weapons.

From Light.gg: Buff can be activated while stowed. Exchanging damage refreshes the buff duration. For Chaos Reshaped, being in Combat is defined as having either dealt or received damage within the last 5 seconds.

DESPERATE MEASURES

Weapon final blows grant bonus damage. Melee and grenade final blows grant a larger damage bonus that can stack.

From Light.gg: Weapon Kills grant 10% increased damage for 7 seconds (x1 Stack).
Grenade or Melee Kills grant 20% increased damage for 7 seconds (x2). Scoring another Grenade or Melee Kill increases this to 30% (x3). Can activate while stowed. Weapon Kills refresh the buff duration.

Reloading after a precision final blow increases your rate of fire

Works well with Outlaw and Rapid Hit. Top tier perk in PvP activities.

Breaking an enemy’s shield with this weapon makes them more vulnerable to Kinetic Damage for a brief period.

Great for all weapons and stacks with other weapon mods.

DRAGONFLY

Precision kills create an elemental damage explosion, damaging enemies nearby.

Dealing unique elemental damage grants this weapon a stacking damage bonus. This bonus is increased for kinetic weapons.

EXPLOSIVE PAYLOAD

Projectiles create an area-of-effect detonation on impact.

According to Light.gg Research: Splits 50% of Damage into an Explosive Damage portion that deals 30% increased damage and has no damage falloff. In PvE, increases body shot damage by 15%. Precision Damage Increase varies depending on Precision Multiplier. In PvP, total damage remains the same.

FOCUSED FURY

Dealing half of the magazine as precision damage grants this weapon bonus damage. The shot count is reset whenever the weapon is reloaded or stowed.

FIREFLY

Precision kills with this weapon increase reload speed and cause the target to explode with Solar damage.

Overall a powerful perk and is highly recommended for any activity

This weapon deals increased precision damage when near allies.

Grants +25% Precision Damage. Great for Linear Fusion Rifles, particularly for endgame content.

FRENZY

Being in combat for 10+ seconds increases damage, handling, and reload until you are out of combat.

A highly recommended perk.

GOLDEN TRICORN

Final blows with this weapon grant bonus damage. While this buff is active, grenade or melee kills of the same damage type greatly increase its damage and duration.

Damage perks are popular; if your build ties in with abilities, this can be especially useful.

GUTSHOT STRAIGHT

Aiming down sights increases body shot damage but decreases target acquisition.

Situational. If the penalty is too much, try a Targeting Adjuster mod.

HARMONY

Final blows with other weapons improve this weapon’s damage and performance for a short duration.

Useful if you have Quickdraw. Having this perk on other equipped weapons allows for a constant damage buff.

HEADSEEKER

Body shots landed with this weapon increase precision multiplier damage and aim assist for a short time.

Great for weapons with medium to heavy recoil patterns. This perk was reworked in Year 8 (2022, S19).

HIGH GROUND

Gain bonus damage when attacking targets from higher ground.

Grants 20% (10% in PvP) damage to targets at a lower height than you. Does NOT work while airborne.

Rounds at the end of the magazine deal more damage.

Great for weapons with a moderate magazine size

Reloading after a kill grants increased damage and target acquisition

Works well with Outlaw and Rapid Hit. Effective on Auto Rifles and SMGs. Grants 25% damage increase.

Final blows increase this weapon’s damage until it is stowed or reloaded. 

An effective damage perk. Pair with any magazine-enhancing perk for maximum benefit!

KINETIC TREMORS

Sustained kinetic damage to a target emits a shockwave that damages any nearby targets.

Seems to be Kinetic’s version of Volatile Rounds, in a way. Great for ad clear. Emits 3 shockwaves.

MAGNIFICENT HOWL

The number of precision final blows before reloading affects the total rounds granted with increased range and damage. Precision final blows with Magnificent Howl actively extend the effect for additional rounds.

From Light.gg: Scoring a Precision Kill grants 1 Stack of ‘Precision Final Blows’ up to the maximum of 10 Stacks. Reloading converts `Precision Final Blows` Stacks into `Magnificent Howl` Stacks. Each shot consumes 1 Stack of Magnificent Howl, granting 50% increased damage and increased Damage Falloff Distance. Precision Kills with buffed shots don’t consume Stacks.

MULTIKILL CLIP

Reloading grants increased damage based on the number of rapid kills beforehand.

Works well with Outlaw and Rapid Hit. Effective with Auto Rifles and SMGs.

Hitting three separate targets within four seconds increases weapon damage for a moderate duration.

Great for Primary Weapons. Acts similar to the Rampage trait.

Dealing with sustained damage increases precision damage.

Damaging rank-and-file combatants increases damage against more powerful ones. Stacks up to 20 for a single powerful bullet.

Elemental kills grant stacks that increase the damage of this weapon’s next shot. Max Stacks provide 100% bonus damage in PVE, 50% in PvP.

Final blows with this weapon increase the size of its detonations for a short duration.

Weapon Kills grant 100 Blast Radius for 5.5 seconds.

This weapon gains increased damage from melee kills and kills with this weapon for a short time.

Great for most Close Quarters and High-Impact Weapons. Synergic with melee builds.

This weapon gains bonus damage when three or more enemies are in close proximity.

SWORD LOGIC

Final blows with this weapon grant bonus damage. The strength and duration of the bonus increase when more powerful targets are defeated.
