MEMORIES: CONCLUSION TO THE LIGHT & DARK SAGA

THE FINAL SHAPE

JUNE 04, 2024

“All ends are beginnings…

Our 10 year journey has led to this very moment. Guardians and allies rallied together to make one final stand against the Witness and his forces. In this moment, we make our own fate.

In Destiny 2: The Final Shape, Guardians finally pursue the Witness into the Pale Heart of the Traveler, bringing the Light and Darkness saga to its long-awaited conclusion. Inside this fractured, memory-scarred realm, reality bends under the Witness’s influence as familiar locations, lost allies, and symbolic echoes of the past manifest as part of its attempt to impose the Final Shape. Guided by the Vanguard, Crow, Cayde-6, and the Traveler itself, Guardians work to unravel the Witness’s plan from within its own domain.

Throughout the campaign, players forge the Prismatic subclass, a fusion of Light and Darkness that represents the Traveler’s last gamble against annihilation. As the Witness tightens its grip on the Pale Heart, Guardians confront manifestations of doubt, sacrifice, and legacy, ultimately rallying both old and new allies. Cayde-6’s return serves as an emotional anchor, reflecting the cost of the long war and the resilience of those who endured it.

The conflict culminates in the assault on the Monolith and the Witness itself, where Guardians strike at the heart of its philosophy and bring an end to its vision of a perfected, frozen universe. With the Witness defeated, the Traveler is forever changed, the Light endures, and the saga that began with humanity’s first contact with the Traveler reaches its conclusion, closing one era of Destiny while opening the door to what lies beyond.

The expansion also introduced major system updates, including the Prismatic subclass framework, the Pale Heart destination with evolving activities and secrets, and the Salvation’s Edge raid, which challenged fireteams to confront the Witness’s inner sanctum.”

Echoes

“In Echoes, the Vanguard was dealing with the immediate fallout of the Witness’s defeat. When the Witness was unmade, paracausal artifacts called Echoes, physical manifestations of memories from civilizations it had destroyed, were cast across the solar system. An “Echo” lands on Nessus, causing the planet to undergo rapid, hostile terraforming and the local Vex to exhibit unusual, individualistic behavior. The threat is revealed to be Maya Sundaresh, a Golden Age scientist from the Ishtar Collective whose consciousness survived within the Vex Network. Calling herself “The Conductor,” she uses the Echo of Command to control the Vex and transform them into her own faction, the Choral Vex.

Maya aims to usher in a new “Golden Age” for humanity by force. She attempts to subvert Saint-14, revealing he is an “alternate self” from a different timeline to break his resolve, though he eventually reconciles his identity with Osiris’s help. After a confrontation in the exotic mission “Encore,” Maya escapes into the deeper Vex Network with the Echo still in her possession, leaving the Vanguard to monitor for her inevitable return.”

Revenant

“In Revenant, the story focused on the Eliksni (Fallen) and the emergence of a new, “vampiric” threat among the Scorn.” Fikrul, the Fanatic, obtains the Echo of Riis (a paracausal artifact of memory). He uses its power to evolve the Scorn and begins transforming living Eliksni into his undead “Revenant” army. Guardians teamed up with Mithrax and his daughter Eido, but the Guardan soon discovered that Mithrax’s Curse of Nezarec had worsened, threatening to consume him.

To stop Fikrul, the Vanguard frees Eramis from captivity, relying on her ancient knowledge of the Eliksni homeworld, Riis, to track the Echo. In the Kell’s Fall Exotic Mission, Eido uses a specialized tonic to strip Fikrul of his immortality, allowing Guardians to defeat him. In the aftermath:

  • The Echo of Riis “chooses” Eramis as its wielder.
  • Eramis uses the Echo’s power to purge the curse from Mithrax, saving his life.
  • Eramis departs the solar system with the Echo to rebuild Riis, while Mithrax is officially recognized as the Kell of Kells for those remaining in the House of Light.”

Heresy

“In Heresy, the focus shifted to the Dreadnaught and a burgeoning civil war within the Hive pantheon. The Echo of Navigation landed on the Dreadnaught, reawakening Oryx’s dormant ship and causing it to drop “Eversion Anchors” across the solar system. A power vacuum triggered a brutal conflict between Savathûn and Xivu Arath, who both seek to claim the Echo and assume the “Taken Throne”.

Tragedy had struck… Eris Morn is seemingly killed by a high-ranking Subjugator, Keit’Ehr. However, she is later revealed to be alive in her own Throne World, orchestrating events from the shadows to prevent the sisters from obtaining the Echo.

The Guardians used a reforged version of Oryx’s blade, Willbreaker, to destroy the Echo of Navigation. The episode concluded with the “Sword Logic” fundamentally fractured: Savathûn remains a hostile wildcard, while Xivu Arath is left mourning her brother and seeking vengeance.”
