What is the Weapon Tier System?

Weapon Tiers is a new tiering system released in Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate.
Unlike the prior weapon systems, such as weapon enhancing, enhanced perks come automatically unlocked depending on the tier your weapon is.
Higher tier weapons provides additional stats and may come with additional benefits depending on the type of weapons, such as enhanced barrels, multiple perk columns, etc.

Destiny 2 has introduced a brand new weapon tier system, replacing the original system that had weapon enhancements and adept weapons.
There are 5 tiers that a weapon can drop as:
- Tier 1: Baseline legendary—your current run-of-the-mill weapons.
- Tier 2: Weapons will drop with 2 pre-enhanced weapon perks.
- Tier 3: Weapons will drop with a minimum of 2 pre-enhanced weapon perks per column.
- Tier 4: Everything from Tier 3, and includes enhanced barrels, enhanced magazines and enhanced mods. (enhanced versions improve the original benefits, making their effect even more potent)
- Tier 5: Top-tier, with everything from Tier 4, plus:
  - A third row of enhanced perks, so 3 pre-enhanced weapon perks per column.
  - Enhanced Origin Trait,
  - A unique ornament and holochip; and
  - A Kill Effect Mod slot with an exclusive kill effect that ignites enemies into celebratory blue flames when defeated.
Notes:
- Tier 5 weapons are intended to feel special, a prestige effect for earning that weapon, similar to how adepts used to feel.
- Higher tier weapons receive extra stats when masterworked, on top of the bonus stats from the masterwork.

Legacy Weapons & Exotics

Legacy weapons, meaning anything released prior to Edge of Fate, will be between Tier 1-3 range.
- This isn't to say your legacy weapons are obsolete! They can and will have a place in the new sandbox.
- Tier bonuses simply add flexibility and a small stat boost; a solid roll on a lower tier weapon can be just as effective in most content.
Older activities will not drop loot over Tier 3 unless refreshed in a future update.
The Weapon Tier system is only for legendary weapons; exotic weapons do not have tiers.
So far in Edge of Fate, no new legendary weapons are craftable.

All Edge of Fate weapons and all future released weapons will have the Tier System.
You will find higher-tier drops via:
- Higher World Tier Activities found on Kepler,
- Higher Difficulty Seasonal & Portal Activities,
- Endgame Activities, such as raids or dungeons, released or reprised after Edge of Fate.
  - Older endgame activities will only drop Tiers 1-3 until updated! So far, The Desert Perpetual may be your go-to raid for higher tiered loot.
Tier 5 loot will be obtained by the most challenging activities, such as Grandmaster Difficulty, the EoF raid, and Trials Flawless Chest loot.
The Portal system has a customize feature that enables players to add additional modifiers and difficulty to their activity to increase their score.
- The higher the score, the better odds you have for higher tier loot
Note: You cannot upgrade a weapon’s tier. A weapon that drops at a specific tier will always be that tier.

As of Edge of Fate, there are now new gear bonuses that is available through the Artifact.
Using new gear introduced in a new season will provide bonuses to:
- Kinetic Slot Weapon Damage
- Energy Slot Weapon Damage
- Power Slot Weapon Damage
- Damage Resistance
Having a new weapon introduced in the current season in every slot will grant you the these bonuses.

Anything released in the current season will count toward the new gear bonus.
Exotics released in the current season will also count.
Unsure if a weapon is from the current season? Look at the season icon located on the top left of the weapon icon in your character screen!
In your Collections tab, there is a featured section that lists featured gear that will apply this bonus when equipped!
