What is the Dreaming City? Why is it cursed?
- The Dreaming City is located on an asteroid called Vespa-4 and exists both in the Reef and the Ascendant Realm.
- It’s a place where the Awoken blend technology and wish magic from the Ahamkara (Wish Dragons) to create their society.
- The Dreaming City is a central hub for the Awoken, a place of learning and spiritual development.
- Mara Sov, the Queen of the Awoken, granted Guardians access to the Dreaming City to counter the Taken, Scorn and Hive forces that have corrupted the area.
- A fireteam of 6 Guardians found and destroyed the source of the corruption, Riven, the last Ahamkara that which was also taken by Oryx, The Taken King, sometime during the Taken War.
- But with her dying breath, Riven cast a final wish, cursing the Dreaming City to experience a three-week curse cycle.
- To this day, we have not been able to rid this curse, and all non-paracausal personnel is stuck repeating the same loop over, and over again, with no end in sight.
What are Ascendant Challenges?
- Throughout the Dreaming City, there are invisible taken rifts that one can see only if they use a Tincture of Queensfoil consumable.
- These rifts lead you into the Ascendant Realm.
- In this realm, you must face the Taken while you navigate yourself through a labyrinth of darkness.
- Completing Ascendant Challenges reward Legendary Loot and Triumph Progression.
- Be careful when completing these challenges! Should you die, you will need to repeat the activity all over again!

Who are the Awoken?
- The Awoken are a race of humanoids born from a clash between the Traveler’s light and the Darkness during the human Collapse.
- Originally humans aboard the colony ship Yang Liwei, they were caught in a singularity created by the Traveler’s conflict, which transformed them into the Awoken.
- Some Awoken possess supernatural abilities, including visions of the future, illusions, and telepathy.
- The Awoken have two main factions: the Reefborn, who live in the Reef under Queen Mara Sov, and the Earthborn, who live on Earth.

Petra Venj's Inventory
Weekly Quests
Petra offers two quests each week that reward Dark Fragments and Legendary Gear. One quest will focus on completing bounties offered by Petra. The other focuses on completing the Weekly Mission, which rotates depending on which curse cycle the city is on.
Bounties
Petra offers two static weekly bounties that require completing activities in the Blind Well, as well as locating and completing the Weekly Ascendant Challenge. Weeklies offer Dark Fragments and Legendary Gear. Five Daily bounties are also available that offer Dark Fragments and Baryon Bough as rewards.
Materials Exchange & Consumables
The Dreaming City has several exclusive materials and consumables. While some items can be earned through completing activities, such as Blind Well, Heroic Public Events and even Patrols, Petra also offers items for sale which cost a variety of materials, although mostly Dark Fragments.
Items within the Dreaming City
A destination material exclusive to The Dreaming City. This material can be found out in the wild, in chests, or as rewards from various sources.
This fragment hums with dark energy and feels warm to the touch. Useful to Petra Venj. Obtain this by completing various activities in the Dreaming City and completing certain bounties offered by Petra.
A fragment of amethyst. Bring this to the Oracle Engine located in the Spine of Keres to receive a reward. Obtain this by completing Gateway Between Worlds, a Weekly Bounty from Petra.
A consumable that can be used before any raid or dungeon encounter. This will allow you and your fireteam to gain Super Energy and Full Ammo.
The viscous liquid within swirls and writhes. Enables True Sight for a moderate duration, allowing Guardians to see platforms and items outside of the dimensional plain of reality.
Smells faintly of mint. Acquired by completing various activities in the Dreaming City. Offer this item to Cat Statues lurking around the city to receive rewards.
A focusing lens from the Dreaming City through which the Ascendant Plane can sometimes be seen. Acquired during Festival of the Lost. The purpose of this offering is currently unknown.
An encoded SOS signal. Search for clues and locate the missing Awoken soldier. Clues are often revealed with the Corsair Quest description.
The Light barely radiates from this object, but it’s there. Offer this to the Blind Well to provide a small charge to the mechanism. Enemies during this encounter are standard forces. This gets you a small chunk of progression for your Gateway Between Worlds bounty.
This object hums with the power of the Light. Offer this to the Blind Well to provide a medium charge to the mechanism. Enemies during this encounter are stronger and more prepared for battle. This gets you about 20% progression for your Gateway Between Worlds bounty.
You can feel the energy contained within radiating from the orb. Offer this to the Blind Well to provide a large charge to the mechanism. Enemies during this encounter will be more resilient. This gets you 30% progression for your Gateway Between Worlds bounty.
The charge pulses and arcs with the Traveler’s energy as well as something far more sinister. Quickly offer this to the Blind Well after defeating the Tier III boss to provide a very large charge to the mechanism. This will spawn a large enemy force and triggers a heroic event, and will get you 50% progression for your Gateway Between Worlds bounty.
Secrets of the Dreaming City
Ascendant Chests
- Ascendant chests are spread throughout the city and can be located by consuming Tincture of Queensfoil.
- Each Curse Cycle has a different set of chests to be found.
- Finding these chests rewards loot and contributes progress to Dreaming City Triumphs!
Cat Statues
- Did you receive a Small Gift and don’t know what to do with it?

Weekly Activities in the Dreaming City
Blind Well
- Accessible via Divalian Mists, the Blind Well is a public cooperative event that multiple Guardians can join in on.
- During the activity, Guardians will be met with waves of enemies – varying from Scorn, Hive, and Taken depending on the weekly rotation and activity tier.
- This activity has four tiers of difficulty.
- To activate Tiers I – III, you must first have Charges of Light.
- This type of consumable can be found out in the wild or by visiting Petra Venj, who offers these items for a trade of Dark Fragments.
- Completing Blind Well activities rewards Dreaming City loot and Weekly Bounty Progression.
The Blind Well is a dimensional rift generator located near Divalian Mists in the Dreaming City that is charged by vast quantities of Paracausal forces. We use our light to utilize the capabilities of the Blind Well.

Gateway Between Worlds
The Weekly Bounty, Gateway Between Worlds, tasks Guardians to successfully complete Blind Well activities within a week timeframe.
There are four levels of difficulty ranging from Tier I-IV which grant progress toward this weekly bounty offered by Petra.
- Tier I: 10%
- Tier II: 20%
- Tier III: 30%
- Tier IV: 50%
Note: Tier IV can only be activated by submitting a Tier III charge into the Blind Well.
How to: Blind Well Activation
Activation
To start the Blind Well, you go to the tall pillar in the middle and turn in your token. The activity always starts in the middle and progress to other zones within the area. A Tier is divided into 5 waves and you’re given 2:30 minutes for each wave.
The 1st wave is in the middle by the pillar. A large bubble will form over that zone protecting you from the toxic gas that’s spreading through the area. Within the given time, you’ll need to deposit Light to the Well by defeating enemies. The same will have to be done for every wave except the final one.
The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th waves will be in different zones around the Blind Well. Players will get a Touch of the Sky buff that protects them for 5 seconds when they leave the zone to go to the next one.
Harmony
In these waves, you’ll have to look for Anathemas (which are glowing enemies that drop a Harmony orb). Whoever picks up the orb will have to attack the Servant of the Plague, a mini-boss, to take down its shield and kill it. Players who did not pick up the Harmony orb cannot remove the shield no matter what. However, everyone can attack the Servant of the Plague once the shield is down.
Also, the Harmony buff lasts 15 seconds and recharges your abilities faster.
Final Round
In the final wave, you’ll have to deal with a certain amount of bosses depending on the Tier difficulty. There won’t be any more bubbles or toxic gas, but getting the Harmony buff becomes crucial. Anathemas need to be taken down for the Harmony buff, then you can attack the Herald of the Plague, which is a large Abomination. The shield may not come down with one Harmony buff, but you’ll be able to find more Anathemas around.
Once the shield is down, everyone can focus on defeating the boss.
Each Tier grants a chest at the end of the activity, providing legendary loot and Dreaming City-specific gear.
The Cycle of Riven's Curse
The Dreaming City has been plagued by a curse for quite some time now. The curse is on a three-week rotation which changes the environment and enemy placement within the city.
- Stage 1: Weak
During Stage 1, The Dreaming City is nearly as it was before the curse began. The Scorn lurk quite heavily during this stage of the curse.
- Stage 2: Growing
During Stage 2, Taken Blights begin to spread throughout the city, and the air begins to darken. Hive are at their strongest during the stage.
- Stage 3: Maximum
During the final stage, Taken Blights have infested the city to its core, and Taken assault the region.

The Shattered Throne & The Last Wish
Dungeon: The Shattered Throne
- Dûl Incaru, daughter of Savathûn, has infiltrated the Dreaming City and commands her Taken and Hive armies from Mara Sov’s corrupted throne world (Eleusinia).
- Because of Riven’s curse, Dûl Incaru is cosmically protected by the three-week cycle that plagues the city.
- Nevertheless, enter the Shattered Throne and face the daughter of the Witch Queen!
Raid: The Last Wish
- Riven, the Last Known Ahamkara, has been taken over and has been wreaking havoc on the Dreaming City
- With the help of Petra Venj, a fireteam of 6 brave Guardians went into the heart of the Dreaming City and defeated Riven, but in her final breath, she unleashed a curse upon the Dreaming City − a three-week cycle that repeats with no end in sight − and it’s up to Guardians to continue to face her time and time again!
